Transhumanism – Something To Ponder
Transhumanism is actually a way of thinking towards the future that’s based on premise that human beings in their current form doesn’t represent the final stage of our development but rather comparatively early stage. It can also be viewed as extension of humanism to which it is derived partially.
In addition to that, humanists believe that individuals matter, that humans matter and the fact that even if we’re not perfect, it’s still feasible to make things much better by simply promoting freedom, democracy, rational thinking, tolerance and concern for fellow human beings. Transhumanists also agree with this argument but is also emphasizing the potential we have to become.
Transhumanism are seen also as an intellectual and cultural movement with a belief that it is possible and our responsibility to improve human conditions via the implementation of advanced technologies. Among the core concepts of such thinking is life extension by doing nanotechnology, genetic engineering, cloning and several other emerging technologies. With such, there’s a probability that humans can achieve eternal life in the future. Likewise, transhumanists show interests in ever-changing technologies that could boost our intellectual, physical and even psychological capabilities that’s beyond what humans are capable of.
Looking On The Bright Side of Authors
Transcranial direct current stimulation or simply known as tDCS for instance is speeding up the reaction time and the learning speed by running a weak electric current in the brain. And whether you believe it or not, this has been used already by the US military in training their snipers. On a more extreme side, transhumanism is dealing with ideas of mind uploading to a computer and what happens when we have created a computer machine possessing greater human intelligence.
What No One Knows About Authors
Enough with the obvious benefits of possibly having superhuman strengths or eternal life, transhumanism also looks into the ethical pitfall and potential dangers of the human enhancement at the same time. One example that is being examined is life extension to which when every individual has suddenly stopped dying, this can cause problems of overpopulation that could trigger dramatic and rapid socioeconomic disaster. Unless we have stopped giving birth, well of course, this will just open another issue.
Keep in mind that without death and birth, the society and humanity will either keep growing or evolving or it will stagnate and sooner or later, it’ll be suffocated by the accumulated ego of demagogues and ego of intellectuals who just won’t die. Similarly, if just the wealthy have access to strength boosting drugs, intelligence and technologies what will just happen in our society, should be that everyone has right to enhance their intellect, will the society still runs smoothly if almost everyone had had IQ of more than 300 and 5 doctorate degrees?
