Benefits of LED Light Bulbs.
Yielding light from electricity requires light bulbs and are a necessity for lighting dark areas. LED light bulbs and compact fluorescent (CFs) light bulbs are some of the commonly used light bulbs.LED light bulbs use LED being solid-state lighting devices that are capable of fitting in standard screw-in connections. Light emitting diodes is the short form for LED used to generate light in bulbs. The bulbs produce visible light by the use of a semiconductor device every time an electric current pass through it. Compact fluorescent light bulbs use fluorescent lambs that are filled with argon gas and a little bit of mercury. The cathode in the fluorescent lamps is heated and produces electrons which hit the argon gas and mercury. Excitement of mercury once hit by electrons makes it produce ultra-violet light that cannot be seen by the naked eyes. The UV light is then passed through a phosphor which causes it to emit more visible light. Mercury used in CFs makes them be considered less environmentally friendly since in case mercury spills due to breakage of the fluorescent lamp, it would be toxic to human health.
The energy efficiency of the LED and CFs light bulbs varies considerably with the LED light bulbs being more efficient. Led light bulbs start lighting immediately once switched on without requiring time for warming up to generate light. LED light bulbs are made from plastics which makes them more durable than other types of light bulbs made from glass. Cold weather is not a limiting factor of LED light bulbs to work properly. LED and CFs light bulbs have the same lighting conditions although the LEDs last longer as use less energy making them cost effective.
Lumen of light bulb should be one of the major consideration other than wattage during purchase of the LED light bulbs. Measurement of the brightness given off by a light bulb is what is referred to as lumen while the wattage is the measurement of the amount of energy a light bulb draws. CFs light bulbs draw much more energy than LED light bulbs for the same number of lumens hence LEDs are more energy efficient. The right color of Led light bulb should be considered since they have a wide color range and where the bulb will be used. The measurement of color temperature is kelvins and the lower the number, the yellower the color. Converting alternating current from power supply to direct current usable by LED light bulbs requires an LED driver.
Improved LED light bulbs have been developed with better efficiency, cost and output making them suitable for all environments. LED light bulbs should be checked for compatibility for use in fixtures during installation as heat build-up can cause light bulb failure or even fire.
